Statistical Assessment of Low-Cycle Fatigue Durability

This article presents an experimental–analytical statistical study of low-cycle fatigue to crack initiation and complete failure. The application probability methods provides for the possibility improving characteristics related structural life justification respective values cyclic loads in design stage. Most studies investigating descriptions or failure do not analyse distribution characteristics, correlation relationships, parameters fatigue. Low-cycle may be quasistatic (due fatigue) transient. Materials with contrasting properties were selected investigation: cyclically softening alloyed steel 15Cr2MoVA; stable C45; hardening aluminium alloy D16T1. All samples produced a single batch each material reduce data. lowest variation coefficient one key indicators obtained using log-normal distribution, which is superior normal Weibull distribution. Statistical analysis durability showed that was smaller than deformation diagram. results enable verification elements in-service facilities subjected elastoplastic loading by assessing strain as well permissible limits.
